The Founder and National Chairman of Otu Suwakwa Igbo Initiative,
Professor Pita Ejiofor has called on Ndigbo to accord topmost
priority to the promotion of Igbo language.
Professor Ejiofor, who is a onetime Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe
University, Awka, made the call to mark the United Nations
International Day of the African Child, observed on the 16th day of
June every year.

He called on governments across Igbo land to save Igbo language from
going into extinction by intensifying the enforcement of the Igbo
language usage and enforcement law, 2020, on the teaching of language
in schools.

Professor Ejiofor also called on religious leaders in Igbo land to
always conduct their services in Igbo language charging parents to
ensure that they converse with their children in Igbo language in
their various homes.

Professor Ejiofor further condemned the use of English language in
writing foundation stone plagues of buildings, Notice Boards and
Posters on streets in Igbo land.
