The people of Awka community, in Awka South Local Government Area, have once again reposed confidence in their traditional ruler , Obi Dr. Gibson Nwosu.

This was a unanimous statement made by indigenes of the community during the general meeting of the town known as “Awka Assembly.

Speaking at the event, the traditional ruler of Awka, Obi Nwosu appreciated Governor Obiano for developing the community since he assumed office, commending him for approving the construction of many feeder roads in Awka.

Obi Nwosu added that the community is solidly behind his government which he said has contained series of provocations and plans to incite crisis in the community, calling on every onye Awka to work towards the growth and development of the community by allowing peace to reign.

A former Presidential Adviser, Chief Ben Ndii Obi, who is a stakeholder in the community, said that Awka Assembly is where all the citizens gather to take decisions that will be binding on every onye Awka.

Chief Obi charged them to pursue peace as the only means of supporting the progress of the community.

Earlier, the President General, Awka Development Union Nigeria, Engineer Tony Okechukwu briefed the Assembly on a lot of issues bothering on the development of the town as it concerns the twenty million naira Community choose your project initiative of the Governor which is in its third phase now.

Engineer Okechukwu dismissed the rumour in certain quarters that old stadium site has been sold out, pointing out that it is the old communal land owned by the community.

The President General said that the issue of tussle for kingship or town union leadership in the community is not acceptable as the town’s monarch is still alive in the person of Obi Gibson Nwosu, as well as himself as the President of the town’s union executive.

Several others who spoke during the meeting suggested ways to sustaining peace and progress of the community and agreed that the land where the civic center is being constructed is now the meeting point of the town.

The oldest man among them later prayed over the unanimous decisions of the Assembly.

Those present at the meeting were the elders, Ozo title holders, king makers, the youths and other opinion leaders in the community.
