The Commissioner for Health Dr. Joe Akabuike says the state has not recorded any outbreak of cholera, in view of the recent outbreaks of the disease in some states in Nigeria.

Dr. Akabuike made this known during an ABS audience participatory program “Nzuko Anambra”

Explaining how to prevent the disease, Dr. Akabuike noted that personal and environmental hygiene is paramount to ending the outbreak and spread of cholera.

The Health Commissioner said that the Ministry has embarked on vigorous education and sensitization of Ndi Anambra on how to prevent it, especially those in Anambra East and West that are highly prone to contracting the disease because of the riverine nature of the areas.

Dr. Akabuike who said that cholera can kill within a space of one to six hours, urged residents of the state to always rush any patient that has contacted the disease to the hospital without delay.

Callers on the program, Ntinwefe and Emmanuel from Ndiowuu, all suggested ways to have a more hygienic environment in the state.
