Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi, was established in 1992 after the creation of the present Anambra State in 1991. It was established by law of the Anambra State House of Assembly to train the much needed middle level manpower in the health sector.
The college started with two departments – Environmental Health Technology and Community Health in one two storey administrative block and two classroom blocks. However, the College currently boasts of six departments – Community Health, Medical Laboratory Technician, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Imaging Technology, Health Information Management and Environmental Health Technology.
It is worthy to mention that through the gracious approval of funds, waiver for recruitment of critical staff and constitution of the first Board members of Governing Council by Governor Willie Obiano (Akpokuedike Global), the college obtained her first National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) provisional accreditation for National Diploma (ND) in 2015 in three departments. They are Environmental Health Technology, Medical Imaging Technology and Health Information Management.
Anambra State College of Health Technology, Obosi now admits her students through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). In 2017, the college obtained full five-year-National Diploma Accreditation in the three departments from NBTE. Also, in 2017, the college obtained full five and four- year-accreditation respectively for Pharmacy Technician Diploma Program from Pharmacists Council of Nigeria and Diploma in community health (CHEW and JCHEW) from community health practitioners’ registration board of Nigeria. The Medical Laboratory Technician program obtained five-year full accreditation in 2015 from Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.
In 2018, the college obtained 2-year-provisional-accreditation from NBTE to start Higher National Diploma in Environmental Health Technology, Medical Imaging Technology and Health Information Management, which entitles them to participate in National Youths Service Corps scheme upon graduation.
There has been massive improvement in infrastructure in the college. Building of a storey block female hostel, standard library, four blocks of classrooms and standard canteen are all ongoing. Recently, Governor Obiano awarded contract for the elevation of two blocks of classrooms to a storey building. The project is ongoing and when completed, the college will establish five more departments in the 2018/2019 academic year.
The laboratories in all the departments, college demonstration clinic and environment health demonstration ground are fully equipped. We also salute the Provost of the College, Dr. Robinson Amarachi Mgbakaogu for his efforts.
