Venerable Dr. Ernest Chukwudi Ezumezu (JP) was born on December 14, 1962 into the family of late Mr. Okeke Ezumezu and

late Mrs. Eunice Amaliwuaku Okeke Ezumezu of Umulichi Ogbu Abatete in Idemili North council. Ernest had his primary education at Central School, Abatete from 1972 to 1978 and his post primary education at Abatete High School (Notre Dame) from 1978 to 1983 when he obtained the West African School Certificate. There he was the Anglican Chapel Prefect among other groups.
Due to financial constraint, he could not further his education. He venture into business and was trained as a Medical Laboratory Technician. He practiced it for over a decade before he answered the call of God. In 1995, he went to Saint Paul’s University College, Awka for his Theological Studies. On Graduation in 1998, he obtained a Diploma in Theology at the College and another Diploma in Religious Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
He was ordained a Deacon in June of the same year and posted to Saint Peter’s Church Amichi. He was priested in 1999. In 2000, he enrolled as a student of Mass communication in Delta state University Abraka and graduated in 2004 with a BA in Mass Communication. He had other qualifications and was about defending his thesis for a Doctorate Degree at the Crowther Theological Seminary, Abeokuta before his demise.
Venerable Dr. Ernest Ezumezu wedded his heart throb; Mrs. Hope Azukaego Ezumezu (Nee Okeke) on September 22, 1990. The marriage is blessed with three wonderful children.
Venerable D.C. Ezumezu served in many stations such as Saint Peter’s Church, Amichi; Saint Paul’s Abubor Nnewichi; Saint John’s Church, Ukpor; Saint Stephen’s Church, Osumenyi; Saint Jude’s Church, Oraifite; Diocesan Church Centre Nnewi and Saint John’s Church Ukpor. He equally served as Archdeacon in these Archdeaconries Osumenyi, Oraifite and Ukpor.
He was the Supervisor, Ogwuaniocha Mission; Girls Guilds Chaplain (Diocese of Nnewi); Founding Father/Chaplain of YMCF, Nnewi Diocese; PTA Chairman, Carol Standard Convent, Ichi from; One time Director, Diocesan Mass Media Radio Outreach Ministry, Diocese of Nnewi; Rector, Alive Unto God School of Missions, Evangelism and Theology, Nnewi.
Venerable Dr. Ernest Ezumezu was deeply committed to mission and Evangelism. He had taken the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to many Dioceses in Nigeria and even beyond. In 2013, he was in Burkina Faso for a mission, which lasted for a month. He had been on evangelism and missions to many Dioceses across the country.
He was also a Resource Person to various Christian gatherings, Conferences, Crusades as well as Synod Preacher and Ordinations Retreatant in many Dioceses including; Nnewi, Niger, Ogbaru, Isukwuato, Lagos Mainland, Lagos West, Yola, Gombe, Afikpo, Orlu, Aguata, Awka, Amichi and others. Venerable Ezumezu was a charismatic preacher, teacher, a revivalist, a pastor, seasoned counselor, mentor, father to many, and more! He was indeed a blessing to this generation. It was this same flair for mission and evangelism (The Great Commission) that took him to Osina in Imo state on November 24, 2017 for an interdenominational community crusade where he took the final bow that took him to the Lord.
He is survived by Mrs. Azuka Ezumezu, wife; Reverend Tochukwu Chukwudi, Miss Chidimma and Master Ernest Munachimso Ezumezu, children; Mr. Emmanuel, Mr. Peter Ukpaka and James Ezumezu for brothers; Mrs. Cordelia Egwuonwu and Mrs. Ngozi Onyejekwu for sisters and a host of other relations. He will be buried tomorrow, Thursday, January 25, 2018.
Indeed you fought a good fight, sleep on, man of God. Adieu Ichie Ozioma! Rest in peace servant of the Most High until we meet to part no more, Amen.
