The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has assured that his government will do everything possible to rescue the recently kidnapped member of the state chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Barrister Chukwubuike Azoro, and to bring killers of another member of the association, the Vice Chairman of the NBA Ihiala Branch and Principal State Counsel, Barrister Peter Awa, to book.

 

The Governor gave the assurance through his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, when he met with the members of the state chapter of the NBA during their peaceful protest at the state High Court premises in Awka.

The Governor, who stated that protection of lives and properties of the state’s residents remains top in the agenda of his administration, noted that the government, in collaboration with security agents in the state, will continue to do the needful to win the war against all forms of insecurity in the state, and to make sure that the perpetrators of the acts face the full weight of the law.

 

Governor Soludo, who regretted the level of insecurity in today’s society, reminded people of the state that security is everybody’s business; and as such people should collaborate with the government and security agencies to ensure adequate security through provision of necessary information to security agencies and other relevant authorities.

Professor Soludo used the opportunity to call on the judiciary to come up with laws that will help to aid tight security at the state level.

 

Earlier, the Chairman, Committee of Chairmen and Secretaries, NBA Branches, Anambra State, Barrister Izuchukwu Nsofor, who revealed that Barrister Awa was gruesomely murdered by unidentified gunmen at Okija on Sunday 19th May, 2024, while the Secretary of Idemili branch of NBA, Barrister Chukwubuikem Azoro, was recently kidnapped and is still in the custody of his abductors, called for improve security in the state for the safety of lawyers and other residents in Anambra.                                                 

Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Security Matters, Air Vice Marshall Chiobi were present at the event.
