Traders at Oyeagu market, Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area have commended the immediate past Transition Committee Chairman of the local government, Chief Clems Aguiyi, for alleviating their sufferings through construction of new shops and ongoing reconstruction of old ones at the market.

 

The traders made the commendation when ABS crew visited the site to ascertain progress of work at the market.

 

On arrival, ABS crew observed that the new shops have been completed while massive reconstruction works are still ongoing at the old shops.

Commenting on the development, Mrs Theresa Odimma; who sells garri at the market, revealed that she has been doing the business for years under the sun and in the rain; but now has a shop, and commended Chief Aguiyi for coming to their aid.

 

On his part, another trader, Mr Chukwuebuka Nweke, who bemoaned the condition of the market before Chief Aguiyi intervened, expressed joy that ever since the section of the market where he trades has been completed, he is now recording business boom, describing Chief Aguiyi as the best thing that has happened to the traders at the market.

While conducting ABS crew round the market, the Chairman, Concerned Shop Owners of Oyeagu Market Association, Chief Joseph Ogbuze, who disclosed that the shops under reconstruction when completed will be returned to the owners free of cost, explained that the market has over one thousand shops; with a clinic and social amenities that can serve as an economic hub of the community and sustainable source of livelihood for people living around the market.

 

He further stated that he traded at the market for forty years with his mother when it was in a pitiable condition, saying that the story changed when Chief Aguiyi listened to their cries by upgrading it to an ultra-modern market, even as he commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for giving Chief Aguiyi the funds with which the market is being reconstructed.

In his contribution, the Chairman of the market, Mr Ugochukwu Nwaokaka, also pointed out that with the transformation of the market, it can now generate huge revenue required for the provision of more infrastructure in Anambra State, adding that the immediate past Njikoka Local Government Chairman, Chief Aguiyi, has left his footprints in the sands of time by performing exceedingly well in office.
