Anambra State Government has secured approval for the establishment of College of Nursing and Midwifery in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area.

 

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike disclosed this during the 2024 First Quarter Health Sector Partnership meeting organized by the State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organization.

Speaking during the two-day programme, Dr. Obidike appreciated all the development partners working in the state, especially the World Health Organization, for their invaluable support to Ndi Anambra in terms of providing effective healthcare delivery.

 

The Anambra Health Commissioner explained that the essence of the meeting was for the state and their partners to review what they have done in the past year, examine their weaknesses and successes with a view to complying with their annual operational guidelines.

Dr. Obidike revealed that the state wants to establish the new nursing school where they will be training prospective nurses that will help to raise the state’s human resources on health and pointed out that the school will kick off in the next fourteenth months.

 

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Obiageli Uchebo also thanked all the development partners working in the State, and urged all the participants to take the meeting seriously to achieve the mission, vision and blueprint of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo led administration in the health sector.

Earlier in his goodwill message, the Anambra State World Health Organization Coordinator, Dr Bonos Mohammed, thanked Governor Soludo for creating an enabling environment that allows development partners to come into the state, adding that the World Health Organization has mapped out one hundred million naira to support the state this year.

 

The Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the ministry, Mrs. Edith Nwachukwu gave an overview of the meeting, while the Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Pharmacist Chisom Uchem delivered a lecture on enhancing quality health in Anambra through the provision of Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.

Family Health International, United Nations Development Programme among others equally gave goodwill messages at the event.

 

Anambra State Director of Public Health, Dr Afam Aneme, the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu among others attended the meeting.
