Governor Chukwuma Soludo has led other prominent Nigerians in paying glowing tributes to the former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, popularly called “Okwadike”.

 

A commendation service was held in honour of the deceased at the International Convention Centre, Awka.

Governor Soludo, described the moment as a very emotional one, noting that the late former Governor was a personal mentor who has been encouraging him all the while.

 

Describing the deceased as a true Nigerian, Governor Soludo said that former Governor Ezeife taught him the principles to live and die for Nigerians.

He said that the deceased laid the foundation for law and order, reason his burial ceremony is compliant to the state burial law, adding that the late Dr Ezeife lived the true essence of patriotism.

In his remark at the event, former Governor Peter Obi stated that former Governor Ezeife lived a life of justice and stated that the aspiration is to have a Nigeria that cares for all, just as former Governor Dame Virgy Etiaba described the deceased as a great pillar of the Nigerian nation, being a lover of human beings.

On his part, a former Governor of Enugu State, Chief Okwesileze Nwodo, and Chief of Staff to the Senate President, Chief Sylvester Okonkwo, described the late Dr Ezeife as a man who stood and fought for the unity of Nigeria; based on equity, fairness and justice.

While announcing the conferment of “The hero of Igbo land” on the late Ezeife, the President of Ohanézè Ndígbo Worldwide, Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, thanked Governor Soludo for doing alot for Ndigbo.

 

Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Charles Esimone, in his reaction said the late Dr. Ezeife made uncommon contributions towards the existence of the institution.

The commendation service, which was led by members of the Salvation Army, featured mounting guard of honour for the former Governor at the Government House, Awka.

In attendance were the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, National Chairman of APGA, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, former Governor of Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige, former Chairman of Police Service Commission, Mr Simeon Okeke, members of Anambra State Executive Council, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, State Chairman of APGA, Barrister Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, National President of ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo, Traditional rulers, the academia, and members of the Ezeife family.
