As part of the present administration’s determined efforts to sanitize the state, the Anambra Urban Regeneration Council has commenced an official tour of various markets in the State.

 

The visit aimed at ascertaining the existing market conditions in line with Governor Soludo’s administrative transformation agenda for a livable and sustainable environment.

Speaking during the exercise the Chairman, Anambra Urban Regeneration Council and leader of the team, Architect Mike Okonkwo who took the team round markets in Amawbia, Enugwu-ukwu, Afor-Igwe Ogidi, Ugwunwasike roundabout as well as some Markets in Onitsha metropolis observed that the inspection exercise has become imperative towards redefining former market conditions and addressing encroachment, by traders, as well as reclaiming the drainages along the access roads.

 

Architect Okonkwo who highlighted the commitment of Governor Soludo, in promoting social wellbeing and economic development in the state, cautioned traders, who may risk their lives in the quest for daily bread to move away from the drainages expressing state government desire towards ensuring a business-friendly environment that will enhance easy trading.

He sought the collaboration of council Chairmen and market leaders, in contributing their quota in recovering the roads and ridding the state of street trading.

 

Also inspected was the on-going reconstruction work at Oduigbo, Ochanja market, which is being carried out under Public Private Partnership.

Expressing satisfaction with the pace of work which commenced three months ago, Architecture Okonkwo, observed that the reconstruction of the shops which hitherto lacked standard building was initiated by Governor Soludo to pave way for street traders and old people to utilize the ground floor for petty business activities.

 

According to him, the project which will be completed within a time frame will go a long way in addressing some of the challenges, confronting traders in the market, describing the project as a positive signal and government’s commitment in heeding to the needs of the citizenry.
