The mission of the Emeka and Bunmi Anyaoku Foundation Centre is to promote the study and practice of democracy and management of diversity, respect for human rights and climate change in Nigeria and Africa.

 

The benefactor of the centre, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, stated this during the commissioning of the centre built in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Chief Anyaoku, a renowned diplomat and former Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, said the centre will also assist the educational needs of underprivileged children in the country, and promised the sustainability of the foundation to attain its vision and mission.

The former Commonwealth scribe, who the commissioning event also marked his ninety first birthday celebration, said he invested all he earned and his gratuity into the project to avail scholars, researchers and the general public access to his repertoire of close interactions with the people and government of diverse cultures, political orientations and geographic locations.

Commissioning the center, Governor Chukwuma Soludo called on every well-meaning member of the society to come together to develop Anambra State, and to bring the world to the state through improved human capital development.

 

Governor Soludo, who described Chief Anyaoku as a global icon bequeathed to the world by Anambra State, commended the foremost diplomat for the vision of the centre, which he expressed hope will boost scholarly research and attract knowledge tourism to the state.

The Director of Emeka and Bunmi Anyaoku Foundation Centre, Miss Oluchi Nguzoro, described Chief Anyaoku as a man with large heart, who established the foundation to reach out to the people, carter for the educational needs of the underprivileged children in the country.

 

She explained that the foundation offers a comprehensive experience, combining a museum, library, memorabilia, traditional attires, biodiversity and wildlife exhibition that will aid learning and research for intellectual development.

 

The event attracted the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council and Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka the third, a former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party Presidential candidate in the 2023 General Elections, Mr. Peter Obi, the Bishop on the Niger, Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo, former FRSC Corps Marshal and Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, among others.

 

Commendations, cutting of birthday cake, tour of the foundation facility were the highlight of the event.
