Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council has expressed Commitment towards the promotion of core Igbo Values and tradition.
The Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council Igwe Alfred Achebe of Onitsha gave the assurance during the maiden edition of new yam festival organized by the State government through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs and Ministry of Culture Entrainment and Tourism at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
Nneka Anoliefo reports that Igwe Achebe who commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Wife Nonye for promoting culture and tradition in the State explained that the Anambra State traditional rulers council is in partnership with the South-East Traditional Rulers Council and various groups to promote Igbo language and culture to save the language from going into extinction.
The Deputy Chairman Anambra State traditional rulers council, Igwe Sunday Okafor of Okpuno, Igwe Pius Omachonu of Olumbanasaa, Igwe Thomas Ogbonnaya of Owerre Ezukala Igwe Raphael Offor of Omogho and his Ezi – Agu counterpart, Igwe Emejuo, expressed satisfaction with the 2023 new yam festival expressing optimism that the festival will continue to promote peaceful coexistence among Ndigbo and called for its sustenance.
Other traditional rulers who commended the festival include Igwe Alex Onyido of Ogidi, Igwe Joseph Ajodo of Ukwalla, Igwe Charles Agbala of Uke and the traditional ruler of Abacha Igwe Godwin Odiegwu as well as that of Nawfia , Igwe Daniel Obelle, and Igwe Bob Orji of Ezinifite in Aguata Local Government Area expressed satisfaction with the festival which symbolizes the conclusion of the harvest season and beginning of another farming season pointing out that it unites Igbo communities and promised continuous support and promotion of core Igbo values in their various communities.
