The House of Representatives has directed the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to move to the site of the collapsed Onitsha-Owerri Road and commence rehabilitation to prevent future loss of lives and property.

 

The resolution was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance sponsored to that effect by the member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. Paschal Agbodike during plenary.

 

The House also urged the Federal Government to increase the ecological funding to arrest the menace of erosion in Anambra State which he said has become a serious threat to the existence of the people.

 

The House also urged Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, to commence repair on the dilapidated Onitsha-Owerri Road and mandate the Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness, Ecological Fund and FERMA to ensure compliance.

 

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Honourable Benjamin Kalu who presided over the plenary read out the resolution of the House, while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.
