The member representing Njikoka Two Constituency at Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr. Pete Ibida, has emerged the new Majority Leader of the House.

Other principal officers elected by the lawmakers of the All-Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, were Honourable Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche, representing Onitsha South Two Constituency as the Chief Whip and Honourable Ifeanyi Chiekwu, representing Idemili North Constituency as the Deputy Chief Whip.

Their elections were announced by the Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor, during yesterday’s plenary.

In his speech, Dr. Ibida, who spoke on behalf of others, explained that their elections were necessitated by the vacuum created by the death of the former Majority Leader of the House, the late Dr. Nnamdi Okafor, who died in South Africa last year while on official duty.

Also at plenary, the House passed a resolution commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo, security agencies and Anambra State Vigilante Groups for their relentless efforts in keeping the state safe.

The resolution was sequel to a motion of urgent public importance sponsored to that effect by the Minority Leader of the House, Honourable Onyebuchi Ofor, who informed the House that the dreaded Odumodu, leader of a criminal gang operating from Imo State into Anambra State was killed few days ago by Anambra Security Forces with four others at Amaruru, a boundary between Imo and Anambra States and extolled Governor Soludo and security agencies for the great feat.

In their separate speeches, the Majority Leader, Dr. Ibida, the Deputy Majority Leader, Sir. Emeka Aforka, the member representing Ogbaru Two Constituency, Sir Somtochukwu Udeze, observed that Governor Soludo and security agencies have made Anambra a livable and secured state by arresting insecurity that ravaged the state in the past.

Others, who commended the governor, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng and other security agencies, were Honourable Uzoma Eli, representing Onitsha South One Constituency, the Deputy Chief Whip, Honourable Chiekwu and the member representing Anaocha Two Constituency, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu.

The Speaker, Right Honourable Okafor, urged Ndi Anambra to always compliment government’s efforts towards protection of lives, property and provision of more infrastructure by paying their taxes and levies promptly.
