Two lovers joined together in holy matrimony, the late Chief George and his wife, the late Chief Mrs Julianna Obika, have been joined once again in death; as they were committed to earth in their family house at Uruezeani village Alor, Idemmili South Local Government Area of Anambra Station.

The burial ceremony took place simultaneously at the late Chief George Obika’s compound in Alor.

The late Chief George Obika died at the age of seventy-five, while his wife, late Chief Mrs Julianna, died at the age of seventy-three.

The late Mrs Obika, popularly called Nwanyi gbue efi, was the eldest sister to the former Acting Managing Director, and now the Director of News and Current Affairs Department of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Chief Gab Okpalaeze.

In a homily at a requiem mass at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church Alor, Reverend Father Paul Nwankwo said that those who believe in God have the privilege of being with him at the last day, regretting that many have gone back to idle worship because of worldly enjoyment, calling on those involved to come back to God and save their souls.

The bodies of the two lovers were later interred at their home, Uruezeani village Alor.

Present during the ceremonies that heralded their burial rites were members of Catholic Men Organisation, CMO, Catholic Women Organisation, CWO, Alor Igwe-in-Council, immediate and extended family members, friends and well-wishers.

Speaking to the ABS, the eldest brother to the late Mrs Obika, Chief Kelvin Okpalaeze, described his late sister as a peace maker; who held the family knitted together, even when their parents are no more, noting that she lived a good life and would join the saints at the last day.

While lamenting the death of his eldest sister, the former Acting Managing Director and now the Director of News and Current Affairs Department of the ABS, Chief Gab Okpalaeze, said the late Chief Mrs Juliana Odika was his second mother, recalling that she was given away in marriage when he was an infant, adding that her death has left a vacuum in both families.

The first son of the deceased, Mr. George Obika, and their first daughter, Mrs Onyinye Onyemesili, said their parents loved them so much in life, which was why they were not very surprised that they died within weeks interval, and prayed God to accept their souls in His bosom.

Some staff of the News and Current Affairs Department of the ABS, including Chibuzo Okoye, Joseph Egbeocha and David Ikenna, as well as Lilian Egboruche of the Programmes Department of the ABS, were present at the event to commiserate with Chief Okpalaeze and family, while condolences from family and extended family members, in-laws and well-wishers also featured at the event.
