The Transition Committee Chairman for Ogbaru Local Government Area, Mr Paschal Aniegbuna has harped on the need for people to insist on wearing life jackets before travelling on water as it saves lives.

Addressing villagers and families of those affected by Ogbakuba-Umunankwo Ogbaru boat mishap, the Transition Committee Chairman urged the locals to relocate to Holding Centres provided by government until the water recedes.

He reminded them that the government meant well for them as nothing can be quantified with life, hence the need for them to leave immediately as the water rises every moment.

Mr Aniegbunam also drew the attention of the state government to the failed portion of Umunnakwo/Ossomala bridge which has also been weakened by the flood.

About ten bodies were recovered while all the houses, roads and markets in the community have been submerged while the villagers parked their farm produce and belongings along the flooded tarred road.
