Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo has rescued a fifteen-year old victim of child abuse at Nnewi.

 

Mrs. Obinabo was informed of the development when social workers from Nnewi brought the fifteen-year old boy from Obiofia Nnewichi Umuezize in Nnewi North Local Government Area.

 

The victim, who gave his father’s name as Mr. Okwudili Ikediobi said the abuse started when they were taken from Ozubulu Community Children’s Home but on that fateful day, he was severely punished because he finished the left over tea of his half-brother which made the step mother to beat him with Iron while his father, upon hearing what happened, bounded his hands and feet to a nearby protector.

 

He also revealed that he was left there for days without food after his sister, who usually sneaks in food for him was severely punished by their stepmother.

 

On how the social workers picked him up, the young boy said it was while he was wandering about after that his sister aided his escape that some people started questioning him due to the wounds on his hands.

 

According to the social workers, who brought him to the ministry, they were alerted by some persons when they saw the young boy roaming the street with injuries on hands and feet that they accosted him, and brought him to the ministry.

 

After hearing the boy’s ordeal, Commissioner Obinabo directed that he should be taken to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital Amaku, Awka for immediate medication.
