A five man Ward WasteManagement committee that would champion Operation Clean, Eco-Friendly and Liveable Idemili South has been inaugurated.

 

The committee’s term of reference was to engage inhouse to house sensitization of residents of the LocalGovernment Area on how best to package and dispose their waste in line with the mandate of Governor Chukwuma Soludo on clean, green, livable and prosperous Anambra state.

Speaking during the inauguration of the team at the council hall Idemili South Headquarters, Ojoto, the Commissioner For Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Comrade Don Onyenji said that the present administration came with diverse visions among which keeping Anambra clean, healthy and safe is a key component.

 

He said this vision can only be achieved if every citizen of the state imbibe cleanliness as an important culture.

Çomrade Onyenji called on every onye Idemili to join hands to promote and improve the life of people within the area by maintaining healthy environment so as to be productive and contribute enormously to societal growth.

 

The Chief of Protocols and Deputy Chief Of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr Chinedu Nwoye while inaugurating the committee,charged them to promote sanitation in all nooks and crannies of the council while commending the Chairperson, Mrs Amaka Obi for a total turn around witnessed in the area since she mounted the saddle of office.

In an address, the Transition Committee Chairperson Of Idemili South, Mrs Obi said the ‘Operation Clean, Eco-Friendly And Liveable Idemili South is in line with the transformational vision of Governor Soludo as clean environment has been recognized globally as one of the key requirements for prevention of disease.

 

Mrs Obi disclosed that the exercise will feature many things including empowerment through employment of sanitation workers, gift presentation to the neatest towns and markets every three months.

On his part, the Managing Director, Anambra State Waste Management Authority, Mr Mike Ozoemena, challenged the newly inaugurated committee to spread the campaign of operation Clean Idemili South to all the parts of the council and promised that the agency will assist in providing pickup trucks that will cart away all bagged wastes.

 

Mr Ozoemena advised the committee to ensure that Ndi Idemili South embarked on planting of flowers and economic trees to beautify their areas.

 

Also speaking, the Head of Environmental Department in the council area Linda Orjiakor said that they have been championing the cause of environmental cleaniness but will put in more action to see that every where is neat.

 

 

The programme which witnessed planting of trees and flowers at the council headquarters attracted prominent stakeholders in Idemili South including, Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu, Professor Kate Omenugha, Chief Joseph Ezeanya and host of others.
