Anambra State Government has taken delivery of of Coconut and Palm seedlings for immediate distribution to communities that are yet to benefit from project.

 

Receiving the consignments at the Ministry of Agriculture in Awka, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Foster Ihejiofor, said it is in line with the commitment of the state government to encourage large scale plantation of the seedlings.

 

According to Dr Ihejiofor, a total of two hundred and twenty-two thousand Oil Palm Seedlings and one hundred and fifty thousand Coconut Seedlings will be distributed across the state this year.

 

While calling on the people to key into the initiative for their economic sustainability and source of revenue for government, Dr Ihejiofor urged wealthy individuals from the state to partner government to drive the project by investing in it.

 

Commenting on the distribution exercise, the Director, Agro Inputs and Growth Enhancement Support, Ministry of Agriculture, Lady Rosaria Ohaeri, underscored the importance of Oil Palm revolution which according to her, started during the regime of Late Michael Okpara.

 

She said the present administration under the watch of Professor Chukwuma Soludo had come to change the narrative from crude oil dependent economy to Palm produce geared towards making the state a liveable prosperous mega city.

 

While enjoining stakeholders to key into the policy, she urged local government chairmen, Presidents General and village chairmen to ensure even distribution of the seedlings.
