Anambra State Government has assured that it will renew its efforts to connect Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, on the DSTV Cable Network.

House of Assembly correspondent Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba disclosed this while presenting an overview of the ministry’s budget estimate for 2022 before the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Information and Culture in Awka.

The commissioner, who noted that ABS can be viewed on the terrestrial platform, on StarTimes Cable network and on National satellite using a free-to-air decoder said that the organization has done well in its public enlightenment services.

Mr. Adinuba revealed that the state government will also put in place the necessary infrastructure that will make it to happen, made it clear that when the project is achieved, ABS will start twenty-four hours broadcasting.

He told the committee that the ministry will give the Onitsha Central Library a facelift, revamp the Anambra State Printing Press, put in place a system that will enable all schools in the state to have access to every journal in the world among others.

On his part, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the ABS, Dr. Uche Nworah urged the committee to increase the organization’s subvention in the 2022 budget estimate to enable them meet the financial implication of staff, who were promoted two years ago, and also meet other needs.

Dr. Nworah also urged the committee to approve the request of the ABS management to construct a Guest House for staff to enable them discharge their social services creditably.

In his remark, the chairman of the committee, Honourable Okechukwu Okoye assured that the committee will partner the ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment and the parastatals under it to secure all they need to do in the 2022 fiscal year.

The Managing Director of Anambra Newspapers and Printing Corporation, Sir Chuka Nnabuife also used the meeting to present the challenges hindering the smooth operation of the parastatal.
