A call has been made for the unconditional release of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB Mr Nnamdi Kanu.
Addressing a joint press conference at the Government House, Awka, leaders of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo worldwide and Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, described the statement credited to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Mallam Abubaka Malami SAN of invoking a state of emergency on Anambra State as unfortunate.
Correspondent Ejike Abana reports that the National Vice President of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo worldwide Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene recalled the recent meeting of south east leaders in Enugu over the security situation, where they agreed to support Anambra State November governorship election.
The groups advised the federal government against sacrificing the lives of the people of the South East because of one person called Mr Nnamdi Kanu.
While saying that it has become difficult for the elders to control the youths due to the perceived inequality meted out on the South East people, they urged the federal government to listen to the voice of the people, emphasizing that Anambra want a conducive environment to exercise their constitutional right of casting their votes, as the federal government has all it takes to provide the needed security.
Lending credence to the statement, the President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Chief Titus Akpudo, appealed to the federal government to critically examine the issue, as there is no justification for the State of emergency.
