Five persons escaped death yesterday when an accident involving a private SUV and a heavy-duty vehicle occurred at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme’s Square, Awka, Cross road.

 

Correspondent, Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that  when the ABS arrived the scene, it saw passersby in clusters discussing the incident with the heavy duty vehicle on the road.

According to an eye witness, Miss Chinyere Nwaoyibo who sells fruits along the road, the accident was caused by reckless driving on the part of the SUV driver who was in top speed to overtake the heavy duty vehicle heading to the Federal Secretariat road, even as she regretted that her goods were lost to the incident.

 

On his part, the driver of the heavy-duty vehicle, Mr Chukwudi Ohaka, who escaped with bruises, thanked God for saving his life, even though he lost his handset and three hundred blocks worth thousands of naira to the incident.

 

He revealed that the driver of the SUV whose car was bashed escaped unhurt and is on the run as at the time of this report.

Five victims of the accident were taken to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, where they are receiving treatment

 

Speaking to the ABS, one of the victims, Mr Michael Eberechukwu, said he sustained injury on his head and waist and thanked the management of the hospital for coming to their aid.
