Governor Willie Obiano has continued to receive commendations for embarking on the Anambra State International Cargo Airport project   at Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area.

Speaking in Awka, the Vice President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke Ogene said the facility will benefit present and future generations.

Our man Paul Ezeoke reports that Chief Okeke-Ogene said that when completed, the airport would impact positively on economic development of the State, Southeast and Nigeria in general as well as serve the interest of the trading population and business community by bringing import and export to the door steps of the traders.

He noted that the facility would also expand opportunities in the Agricultural sector and raise the value of farm produce as farmers would have ready access to evacuate their harvests to the outside world as well as accelerate development of agro industries.

According to Chief Okeke-Ogene, the facility will equally provide thousands of direct and indirect jobs which will help tackle the challenge of unemployment.

He commended the speed and quality of work done on the project, noting that executing such capital intensive project without borrowing is a testimony of the Governor’s skillful and prudent management of available resources which other Governors in Southeast should emulate to make the zone self-sustaining.

On the forthcoming Governorship election, Chief Okeke-Ogene urged all political parties to uphold the zoning arrangement by picking their candidates from Anambra South Senatorial District.

Also speaking, the State Vice Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, Anambra  Central, Sir Theophine Nnoli  observed that the airport  is legacy project that   would redefine socioeconomic life of the state and Southeast as well as save traders the hardship and cost of transporting their goods from far away airports to the state.

Sir Theophine said the facility would also have multiplier effects on grassroot development as it would encourage many investors to site industries in rural communities which he noted would help discourage rural urban drift.

He extolled Governor Obiano for his visionary leadership and urged APGA members to uphold unity of purpose to achieve the set goals.
