The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor has urged the people to submit themselves to COVID -19 test to prevent its spread.

He made the call when the COVID-19 team of the Anambra State Ministry of Health conducted COVID-19 test on the members of the Anambra State House of Assembly at the Assembly complex in Awka.

The Speaker explained that they subjected themselves to COVID-19 tests as part of measures to contain its spread in Anambra State and to encourage everybody to go for the test at protective centres as it is free.

Right Honourable Okafor noted that Anambra State Government has been in the forefront in the fight against the virus by equipping COVID-19 testing centres across the state and trained health personnel to manage the virus.

The Speaker urged Ndi Anambra to respect all the COVID-19 protocols as contained in the COVID -19 law enacted by the House for their safety.

He commended Governor Willie Obiano for availing the House the opportunity to have COVID -19 test, assuring that the House will continue to work with him to win the war against the deadly disease.

On his part, the Clerk of the Anambra House of Assembly, Mr. Pius Udoh said the test is in line with the directive of Governor Obiano and policy trust of the Speaker to ensure that the ravaging pandemic does not get stranglehold of the State and expressed happiness that Anambra State came out tops among the States where the pandemic was contained.

On his part, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala disclosed that from December last year till date, the Ministry of Health has conducted more than five thousand test which brings to fourteen thousand six hundred COVID -19 tests conducted so far.

The Health Commissioner also announced that Anambra has recorded over five hundred positive cases, stressing that the measures government put in place has dealt with the pandemic.
