Anambra State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building has said that they have worked out plans to enumerate and mark abandoned buildings across the state.

Members of the Association, led by its Chairman, Mr. Alex Chukwunwike stated this when they embarked on -the- spot assessment of the building that collapsed at Obosi, Idemili north council area, killing two.

Mr. Chukwunwike stressed that the move will identify structurally deficient buildings, which are mostly occupied by squatters, thereby reducing indiscriminate collapse.

He said from the assessment they carried out, all the materials used on the collapsed building which has no roof, have failed, advising developers to engage professionals to avoid such incidents.

A former chairman of the association, Mr. Ifeanyi Anyanechi called on government to act fast and demolish the building immediately because according to him, if it is left standing, stranded squatters may move in.

The building, which collapsed last Sunday, trapped and killed husband and wife, leaving their six children behind.

Consequently, members of the state Physical Planning Board, led by its Executive Chairman, Barrister Chike Maduekwe cordoned off the building and marked the remaining portion for demolition.
