The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Anambra State Commandam has intercepted a truck loaded with over one thousand, nine hundred and ten kilograms of banned and hard drugs worth millions of naira at Amawbia, Awka South Council Area.


The Command also arrested fourteen suspects, connected with drugs trafficking and other drug crimes in the state.
The State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Mohammed Idris made the revelations in a press briefing at the state Command Headquarters of the Agency in Awka.


David Okpokwasili reports that the drugs were hidden in loads of gallons of oil, bathroom slippers, vehicle and motor cycle spare parts and many other goods.


The drugs are one thousand, six hundred and thirty-five kilogrammes of cannabis sativa, four hundred and twenty-two thousand tablets of two hundred and twenty-five milligrammes of Tramadol, ten thousand tablets of Diazepam, one hundred thousand tablets of Exol five and zero point-one-zero kilogrammes of cocaine.


Mr. Idris, urged Ndi Anambra especially stakeholders at communities to collaborate with the Agency to rid the state off hard drugs and drug traffickers.


While describing the arrests as a major step in the war to end drug trafficking in the state, the NDLEA Commander commended Governor Willie Obiano for the moral and logistics support provided the agency in fulfilling its duties.
