The remains of the Late Dr Ben Chukwudum Anyene, have been laid to rest at his home town Ndiowu, in Orumba North Local Government Area, amidst heavy presence of political class, professional colleagues, the religious and community leaders.


According to his biography, the Late Dr Ben Anyene, a former Commissioner for Health in Anambra State between 2000 and 2003, spent the later part of his life as a public health reform practitioner and activist, having played key roles in revitalizing the nation’s primary healthcare.

In a sermon at a funeral service of the deceased, the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right Reverend Samuel Ezeofor, said the death of the righteous, though painful to the bereaved, should rekindle in Christians, the hope for eternal life.


Bishop Ezeofor said anything done for man after he had died is no longer important for eternal life, reminding Christians that only those who died in Christ have hope of eternal life.


Describing their late father and brother as one who lived life of service and humility, Mr Nnamdi and Miss Adaobi Anyene, and Mrs Ifeoma Ekwueme said medical practice helped the deceased in touching lives, promising to sustain his legacies.


Members of the political class, including a former Governor of Anambra State Mr Peter Obi, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Charles Soludo and Mr. Godwin Ezeemo described the death of the Late Dr Anyene as a great loss to humanity as he lived a fulfilled and impactful life.


National President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Francis Fajile, represented by the Anambra State Chairman of the Association, Dr Emma Muonagor led members in laying of wreath in honor of the deceased.


The funeral ceremony was equally attended by a one-time Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Etiaba, former Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Dr Oseloka Obaze, State and federal lawmakers, Knights and Ladies Auxiliary among others.
