The member representing Anambra East and West in the Federal House of Representatives, and founding President of United Anambra Youths Assembly (U-AYA), Hon. Chinedu Obidigwe has pleaded with Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State to work towards ensuring that Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, former Governor of the Central Bank succeeds him.
Hon. Obidigwe made the plea on behalf of Anambra youths under the aegis of United Anambra Youths Assembly (U-AYA) and United Anambra Women Assembly (U-AWA) while speaking at their national convention which held today (Friday, 31st January 2020) at Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.
Responding, Governor Obiano charged the gathering to be cautious as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not yet lifted the ban on political activities. He thanked the youths for always supporting the government, and the ruling party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Continuing, Governor Obiano encouraged the youths to embrace the new world of work which is driven by technology. “We want to groom the next Bill Gates in Anambra state. This government will sponsor Anambra youths interested in pursuing IT careers”, he said.
The Governor also spoke about other emerging opportunities that the state government has facilitated for Anambra youths including the partnership with the city of Graz in Austria which proposes to sponsor 50 Anambra youths in various skills, the plans to set up Alliance Francais in Anambra state and others, and the proposal by the Nigerian Police to recruit 50 constables in every community in the state. He reminded them that this is the era of artificial intelligence, app development and other IT driven jobs and these offer fantastic opportunities for Anambra youths.
Concluding, Governor Obiano charged the youths to shun crime, drug peddling and consumption, and encouraged them to also look towards agricultural entrepreneurship. He called on them to contact Anambra Small Business Agency (ASBA) for ways to access the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) two billion Naira agricultural loan.
