Education Secretaries in the twenty-one Local Government Education Authorities in Anambra State have described shortage of teachers as a major challenge facing primary school system in the State.


They stated this during their rotational monthly meeting at Ojoto in Idemili South Local Government Area and appealed to State and Federal Government to employ more teachers and retain some of N-Power teachers, who were outstanding during their social work.


The Leader of the Education Authority in Idemili South Local Government Area, Mrs Kanayo Chukwurah, said that Primary Schools in Anambra State with teeming populations need more teachers and commended Governor Willie Obiano for executing policies that had raised the standard of education in the state.


Mrs Chukwurah, added that parents are now registering their children in public schools due to qualitative education they offer.


She emphasized that the meeting is a platform through which Head Teachers and Teachers interact to review problems they encounter.


The Education Secretary of Idemili South Local Government Mrs Anthonia Enemuo commended the Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha and Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board ASUBEB, Chief Patrick Ugbaja, and teachers for moulding the character of children.
