Anambra State Police Command has assured a hitch free Christmas celebration.


In a release signed by the Police Public Relation Officer, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, the command stated that in order to stem the tide of cultism and other nefarious activities in the state, it had nabbed over eighty suspected cultists, recovered offensive weapons and other incriminating materials.


It stated that between eight to thirteenth December 2019 at Ogidi /Nkpor axis, Awka /Amansea axis, Onitsha /Nkpor axis, Oba/Nnewi axis , Nsugbe/Nkwelle-Ezunaka axis and Ogbunike/Abagana axis, a total of eighty-two suspects were arrested out of which twenty-five were freed, fifteen charged to court, while forty-two are undergoing investigation.
The statement further revealed that exhibits recovered from the suspects, who confessed being members of different cult groups included seven machetes , three axes, one dagger, one Vikings barrette, five improvised bunkers for inhaling substances and some quantity of weeds, suspected to be cocaine, cannabis sativa respectively.
According to the statement , the Command Special Anti cult unit had also on the fifth of December 2019 arrested one Joseph Onyedika ‘ male aged twenty-three, from Okposi in Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi State, Emmanuel Christopher male aged twenty-seven from Oraifite in Ekwusigo LGA and ThankGod Sike male twenty-five from Obioma Ngwa in Abia State residing at Nnewi in Anambra State.
The release further stated that all cases are under investigation after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
It said that the state Commissioner of Police, CP John Abang, reassured the Public of adequate protection before, during and after the Christmas and New year celebrations and further appealed to Ndi Anambra and residents alike to report any suspicious person or movements to the nearest Police Station or call police emergency number 07039194332 for prompt response.
