Traders in Anambra state under the Auspices of Amalgamated Market Traders Association of Anambra State have condemned the attempted impeachment of the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Barrister Rita Maduagwu this week.
In a ten point communiqué issued after an emergency meeting of the Association, the traders stated that the attempted exercise was unnecessary, and a threat to peace and tranquility that are reigning supreme in the state since the inception of the administration of Chief Willie Obiano.
The communiqué jointly signed by the President General of the Association, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo and the Secretary General, Chief Chuma Eruchalu commended the maturity, wisdom, intelligence and due diligence exhibited by the members of the House of Assembly in handling the matter, describing it as a transparent expression of the true Anambra spirit that makes Anambra state the light of the nation.
The traders made it clear that they would join hands with the people of the state to resist any attempt to remove the Speaker of the House through unjust or illegal means, stressing that they will not support any attempt to compromise the peace of the sate especially now that the yuletide and National elections are fast approaching.
They commended the good leadership qualities of the Speaker which they noted she has brought to bear in the administration of the House of Assembly and also the peace and collaboration amongst the three arms of government since the coming of the Speaker.
The communiqué stated that Traders were in support of Barrister Rita Maduagwu as the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly and called on all members of the State House of Assembly to avoid acts that would threaten the stability of the Assembly.
They reiterated their total and unalloyed support to Governor Willie Obiano, who they said has remained the most traders’ Friendly Governor.
