The establishment of the Anambra Small Business Agency, ASBA, by Governor Willie Obiano has been described as a positive initiative expressed by the will to boost business enterprises across the state.
This is part of the opinions of stakeholders as the faculty of Management Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, in partnership with FULBRIGHT and Anambra Broadcasting Service organized 2016 Business Plan Competition for Young Entrepreneurs.
The event which was held at the boardroom of Faculty of Management Sciences of Unizik provided a platform for postgraduate students from various disciplines to present their business plans to participants and panel of judges drawn from United States of America and Nigeria.
The 2016 Business Plan Competition for young entrepreneurs featured thirteen groups of young entrepreneurs which took ten minutes each to present their various business plans to their audience.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Professor Josephat Ahaneku, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Carol Umeobi, described the event as a foundation of hope springing from the Faculty of Management Sciences.
Professor Ahaneku thanked all that participated in the event especially the panel of judges whom he said, came to enlighten the students and tell them what to do in order, to survive the economic situation in the country.
Commenting, the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Anayo Nkamnebe, said that the Faculty is keying into the vision of the institution to produce graduates that are self-reliant who would become successful entrepreneurs and charged them to turn their business plans to functional business schemes adding that the presentations were impressive.
Also speaking, one of the judges Mr. John Agulue, who is also a business executive based in Atlanta USA, commended the confidence expressed by the presenters pointing out that enthusiasm, integrity, consistency and focus will make them successful in life.
In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the ABS, Nze Uche Nworah who was among the judges, explained that Governor Obiano is promoting acquisition of entrepreneurial skills, with the establishment of ASBA to assist Small Business Enterprises and encouraged the youths to come up with ICT related business ideas, to key into global trend.
In their separate remarks, two panelists, Mr. Green Dim and Mr. Larry Dibor, from the US, charged the youths not to be daunted by challenges adding that human resources are the engine that can drive the diversification of the Nigerian economy.
In his comment, US Fulbright scholar and visiting distinguished Professor of marketing and Entrepreneurship, Professor Alphonso Ogbuehi, said he organized the event to encourage young entrepreneurs to bring out the ingenuity in them which will help them establish their own businesses.
The 2016 Business Plan Competition for young Entrepreneurs saw some groups going home with various prize money while the grand prize of fifty thousand naira was won by group fourteen, which presented a business plan on bio-fertilizer production.
In an interview, the team leader of group fourteen, Mrs Linda Ezema, thanked the dean of the faculty for the opportunity given them to show- case their business plans.
