The Anambra state goverment through Nigeria Erosion and watershed management project (NEWMAP) in collaboration with World Bank,

has distributed cheques amounting to over ten million naira as compensation to one hundred and twenty five affected persons at the erosion sites at Uga-Amuma Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state .
The exercise started with a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Chidubem Iweka.
Speaking on behalf of the state government team, the permanent secretary Ministry of Environment, Beautification and Ecology, and technical committee chairman, NEWMAP, Dr. Ngozi Ezeike enjoined the people of Obosi to adopt the global best practices for the prevention of erosion to avoid further loss of the state’s land mass to erosion. Also speaking, the project coordinator of the state NEWMAP, Mr. Michael Ivenso, explained that apart from the compensation , that NEWMAP will also organize skills acquisition training for indigent widows and the less privileged in the community.
Welcoming the team, Igwe Iweka who was very grateful to Governor Obiano for remembering Obosi , also commended him for the total transformation of the state, and prayed that God will see him through in his second term bid. Some of the beneficiaries, Messrs Micheal Aghaebita and Daniel Udeozor while commending the state government for its benevolence, stressed that this is the very first time something of this nature has happened to them and pledged their unalloyed support to the government . Also in the team was a social and Livelihood specialist, federal project Management Unit, NEWMAP, Abuja, Mrs. Ruth Mshelia, among others. The investiture of Igwe Obosi as the NEWMAP patron, as well as presentation of cheques to those affected by NEWMAP projects formed the high points of the visit.
