Heads of the Anglican and Roman Catholic Churches as well as other key religious denominations in the state are to be presented with life achievement awards for promoting religious harmony in the state.Â
Governor Willie Obiano announced this while addressing delegates at the 2016 Standing Committee meeting of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion held at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka.Â
Governor Obiano said the awards on the religious leaders which he described as deserving, is billed to take place in December, this year, as part of activities marking the State’s Silver Jubilee Anniversary celebrations.Â
According to him, what the state government has been able to achieve in terms of religious harmony and gainful engagement with the church would not have been possible without the support and priceless contributions of its leaders, Â hence the need to honor them.Â
Governor Obiano assured that under his watch, Â government will continue its partnership with the Church in programmes and projects across key sectors to ensure that they impact as much lives as possible as well as enable the people take full ownership of them.Â
He urged the committee to utilize the forum to fashion out more pragmatic ways of advancing the cause of evangelism.Â
Earlier while presenting their address to the governor,  the Primate, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, the Most Reverend Nicholas Oko acknowledged that testimonies and evidences abound that the religious climate in the state is now tension free  due to Governor Obiano’s efforts and said through the event,  far reaching decisions for the growth of the Church and advancement of Christ’s Kingdom will be reached.
Welcoming the Governor, the Archbishop, Metropolitan, Anglican Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Christian Efobi described him as a visionary leader who has genuine interest in the welfare of the people and hailed his cordial disposition towards the church which according to him, is yielding dividends.Â
On his part, the Chairman, House Committee on Religion, Ethics and Pilgrimage and Member representing Njikoka One Constituency in the State Assembly, Dr Timothy Ifedioranma commended the choice of Anambra as the venue for the event, adding that it goes to re-enforce the peace, security and booming hospitality in the state.
Special prayers were at the event said for Governor Obiano and the State.
