Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN, Anambra State branch yesterday joined its counterparts all over the world to celebrate the International Accountanting Day.

The event with the theme, “Financial Management Strategies for Sustainable Growth”, held at Paul University Awka, attracted accountants from all parts of the state.

According to the Association, the International Accountanting Day, celebrated on tenth of November every year, seeks to promote the accounting profession and celebrate the role of an accountant in every society.

In his speech, the state Chairman of the Association, Mrs. Nkechi Ofoedu said the theme was carefully selected to promote the atmosphere for effective performance and optimal economic and social results.

Mrs. Ofoedu while appreciating Governor Willie Obiano for his consistency and determination towards quick payment of workers’ salaries noted that the celebration also helps to encourage young persons, who intend to pursue a career in accountancy.


In a lecture, Professor Vincent Ezeabasili of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, pointed out that financial management as a managerial decision making process is important in every business organization as it helps to reduce the risk factors in finance.

In an interview, the Vice Chairman of the Association Dr Pius Okoye and the Director of Accounts, Ministry of Lands, Mrs. Adaeze Egwuatulu, said that the celebration sets to create awareness on the key attributes an Accountant must possess.
Also the Director of Finance, Anambra Broadcasting Service and a member of the Association, Mrs. Nneka Ogbuonwu, advised that every Accountant should endeavour to abide with the ethics of the profession.

The event was earlier kicked off with a sensitization walk to create awareness.
