Children are gifts from God and there are responsibilities expected of parents towards their children. It is the joy of every couple to be addressed as parents shortly after marriage. Unfortunately, not all parents are responsible to their children, hence the rising trend of moral decadence in our today society.
Family is the fundamental building block of human society to protect the children as well as prevent juvenile delinquency. The ultimate goal of Christian parents is to lay foundation in their children’s young impressionable years so they will always desire to fully seek God as their Creator and Father. The goal of godly parenting is to help children want to walk in the footsteps of parents who are walking in God’s way of life.
Most parents claim to have the fear of God but the issue is how many are truly who they claim to be? Many who claim to be Christians are living lives contrary to the principles of Christianity.
You do not train children with words but by actions. Our personal example is of the utmost importance. Children must see the real God through their parents’ eyes.
Young children’s perception of God is primarily developed by their parents’ example; the way they live. We cannot hope to rear godly children, if we, as parents, are not genuine godly examples.
If children see lying, indecency, arrogance, anger, hypocrisy, selfishness among other negative character traits being exhibited by their parents, they will not likely be attracted to their parents’ belief system.
Our goal as parents, then, is to do the best job we can possibly do in turning our children’s hearts to God, their Creator. God, as the Giver of children, has the manual for training them – the Bible. And except parents train their children by using the manual, they will continue to engage in antisocial behaviours.
The family is the place where children learn values, hard-work, character, and what is most important in life. Religious gatherings reinforce the principles taught in the home and support the family in its role of raising the next generation.
Society thrives when families and churches are strong and when the principles they cultivate inform the daily choices and personal conduct of their members.
Research shows that Children, who participate in religious activities like prayers, reading or watching religious contents, are less likely to display antisocial behaviours.
If the increasing moral decadence in our society must be reduced, parents must apply Biblical principles in training their children. It is the responsibility of the parents to teach them the ways of God, train them in the way they should go, according to Proverbs twenty-two, verse six. Love them and nurture them to maturity.
Therefore, godly parenting is the way to go, if we must save our children, families and the society at large from further moral decay.
