Members of the Anambra state Vigilantee Group have been urged to
participate actively in the various capacity building programmes for
improved efficiency.
Speaking in Awka, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on
Security, Mr Ositar Christopher said training and retraining
programmes enrich their knowledge and sharpen their skills in crime
prevention and fighting to achieve the desire goals.
Paul Ezeoke reports that Mr Christopher explained that as the ember months have arrived with
the expected spike in crime and social vice across the country, the
state is taken all necessary measures to further strengthen its
security architecture to maintain its crime free status .
He expressed satisfaction that the collaboration between the police
and the state Vigilante Group is yielding the desire goals.
Mr Christopher cautioned the vigilante members against involving
themselves in political matters, town Union affairs, land dispute,
recovery of debts or husband and wife differences which he said are
against their mandate of assisting the police to secure the various
communities and made it clear that any of them caught going against
the mandate of the service would be seriously sanctioned.
He said the state Cattle Menace Control Committee has sustained
efforts to prevent conflict between farmers and herders as well as
ensure that unidentified herders do not infiltrate the state.
Mr Christopher urged residents of the state to remain security
conscious and report presence of strange people or happenings to the
security agencies for prompt action.
Also speaking, a community leader, Chief Philip Ezike, commended the
state government for affective protection of lives and properties
across the state, which he noted has accelerated pace of
socio-economic activities.
