Residents of Ifite-Awka by Nnamdi Azikiwe University Gate have
commended the Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency, ARMA, for the
ongoing rehabilitation of the road.

The Managing Director, ARMA, Mr Emeka Okoye, led the team while on the rehabilitation exercise.

Our correspondent who monitored the exercise, reports that the exercise is in fulfillment of Governor Willie Obiano’s promise to Ndi Anambra that rehabilitation of all roads and streets across the state will commence immediately the rains stop.

Expressing delight with the immediate attention on the roads in the state, a commercial bus driver, Mr Chima Nelson and a trader, Miss Blessing Osigwe noted that the major causes of the eroded portions of Ifite-Awka road was blocked drainage channels which residents of the
area filled with waste leading to overflow of water on the asphalted road.

They commended the state government for patching up portions of roads
affected by this year’s rains across the state to ease vehicular movement ahead of the festive season.

Speaking to ABS, Engineer Okoye said the agency since the commencement of zero pot holes exercise had on daily basis fixed over six hundred square meters of roads across the state capital.

He explained that the agency slowed down its operation of patching
potholes due to the rainfall and flood, reassuring on state government’s
readiness to deploy contractors to road projects across all the Senatorial zones.

He assured residents of the state of more repair works on all roads, which he said would be completed before the yuletide while revealing that the state government has initiated measures to ensure that roads lasts long through the creation of a department in charge of desilting
of drainages across the state.
