Residents of Umuzocha village, Awka have sent a “save our soul message to Governor Willie Obiano over erosion menace ravaging the community.
Umuzocha is one of the thirty three villages that made up Awka town.
The village has for a long time now been threatened with erosion emanating from flood water .
Reacting to the erosion menace which has left some parts of the village devastated, an indigene of the town, Honourable Kanayochukwu Obidigbo, expressed shock that the erosion has washed away people’s gate, perimeter fences among others, explaining that the erosion started as a result of blockage of drainage channels by some developers.
Other residents, Mr. Emmanuel Iloanya, and Mr. Ifeanyi Nwaiyi, recounted the numerous lost, the erosion have caused the village which prompted them to contribute money for the palliative work going on at the site.
They explained that the erosion is beyond them hence their appeal to Governor Obiano to come to their aid to avert further lost of lives and property.
The indigenes further urged the Physical Planning Board and Ministry of Environment to come to Umuzocha Erosion Site to see things for themselves and proffer solution to the Erosion devastation.
A resident , Miss Ifeoma Nwangwu recounted their ugly experiences whenever it rains.
