Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC ) has approved the award of contract for the reclamation and control of flood and gully erosion at the Agu Awka GRA site.

The contract was awarded to CEFAC International Ltd at the cost of three hundred and fifty-two million, one hundred and six thousand, seven hundred and eighty-one naira, eighty-one kobo only.

The work is expected to be completed in twenty-four weeks from the date of mobilization.

A release signed by the Anambra state commissioner for Information, Mr Paul Nwosu said that the approval followed due consideration of the memo presented by Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma, the Anambra State Commissioner for Works.

It noted that Anambra State has been described as the erosion capital of the world, and one of the many sites is at Agu Awka GRA which is threatening the present Government House, buildings around the vicinity and the lives of the people living there.

According to the release, the non-channelization of the floodwater within the area has been responsible for the gully erosion site.

The Council also gave a go-ahead order for additional work to be done on the six hundred and eighty-five meters length of the Isuofia-Nanka road which if left unconstructed, will pose a great danger, as it would create more gully erosion and AG Vision Construction Ltd was given the job at the cost of three hundred and ninety-three million, five hundred thousand naira only.

In a bid to better secure the Anambra State House of Assembly which was recently renovated to ensure that lawmakers work in a conducive environment, ANSEC equally approved that gate house, security post and perimeter fence should be emplaced as well as the landscaping to enhance the aesthetics of the environment.

The external works will also include the asphalting of the roads, laying of kerbs in the House of Assembly complex with a well-structured parking lot and dedicated green areas and the job went to HEMEBS Construction Nigeria Ltd at the cost of one hundred and eighty-four million, six hundred and fifty-six thousand, five hundred and one naira, twelve kobo and it is expected to be completed within three months of mobilization.
