The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Anambra State has presented “Workers’ Beacon of Hope” award to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The award was presented to Governor Soludo by the Anambra State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor, and his Trade Union Congress, TUC, counterpart, Comrade Chris Ogbonna, at the Dr Alex Ekwueme square, Awka, during the 2025 Workers Day celebration in Anambra state.
Addressing the workers shortly after receiving the award, Governor Soludo restates commitment towards enhancing the welfare of workers in the state, even as he said that he has been showing commitment to their welfare as he has cleared four years backlog of gratuity he inherited, and has paid up to date gratuity and pension of workers since he assumed office.
In an address, delivered by the Chairman of TUC in Anambra state, Comrade Chris Ogbonna, the Organised Labour appreciated the remarkable strides of Governor Soludo in infrastructural development aimed at transforming Anambra into an economic hub; as evident in the mass road construction across the state, prudent management of resources and achievement of major development milestones without borrowing money from anywhere, and listed some challenges facing the organized labor to including non payment of pension and gratuity to ABS retirees for a long time now, implementation of the joint committee‘s recommendations to safeguard the welfare of future retirees, mass recruitment of workers, low cost housing scheme, among many others.
