Following a recent resolution passed by the Anambra State House of Assembly in response to the petition filed by the Anambra Tricycle Riders Association, ANTRA, against persistent issue of multiple taxation and extortion by individuals posing as government agents, the association has pledged total support to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The resolution followed a detailed review by the House Committee on Public Petitions which looked into the complaints presented by ANTRA regarding the activities of illegal revenue collectors across the state; who claim to be acting on behalf of the government.
In its resolution, the House declared that the state government does not recognize any form of touting, and any person or group collecting levies in the name of the government without proper authorization is acting unlawfully.
Following the resolution, ANTRA Chairman, Comrade Chidozie Okafor, expressed appreciation to the state legislature for what he described as a “rescue mission” for tricycle operators in the state.
