Late Mrs. Josephine Mary Onyejiuwa was born eighty-five years ago into the family of late Chief Thomas Okoye -the son of Okoyeobele of Nnebuagu kindred, Isiakpu village Osikwu Awgbu in Orumba North Local Government Area.
Born in the old Bendel now Delta State, Mrs ONYEJIUWA received her formal education at St. Michael’s School which is now, the Primary School Center Awgbu. However she did not further her education because at that time, the parents did not know anything about formal western education and the fact that emphasis was not on female child education. Young Josephine then joined her mother to do farm work and helped in other domestic chores.
She continued to grow gracefully and graciously as a very beautiful damsel until the search lamp of her best- half late Chief Fabian Okeke beamed on her. With the full consent of both parents Josephine got married to her husband Fabian, who was then a very bubbling handsome young man thriving in tailoring and farming business in far away Igwunshin in Ondo state. Both lived in Ondo State where most of their children were born and bred until they finally returned in 1978 to settled down in the village. Their marriage was blessed with children two of them of blessed memory.
Socially, Late Mrs ONYEJIUWA was a prime mover, a great achiever, motivator and mentor to many people. She shouldered the responsibilities of women leadership at various times and levels including family and village women groups and later retired to a consultant position in the village offering important suggestions and advice to Christian and non Christians women .
On the family front, Late Mrs ONYEJIUWA was everything needed in a leader and a mother for the family to remain one and indivisible vibrant household As a very good disciplinarian that she was, she provided the needed peaceful and harmonious atmosphere that encouraged everyone to contribute in moving the family forward .
She was a devout Christian of the Catholic faith who never shied away from her roles as a staunch member of the Catholic Women Organization in Awka Diocese and contributed immensely in propagating the Catholic doctrines.
No wonder the Agulu Deanery Catholic Women Organization (CWO) conferred on her the award of Ezinne Udo-amaka of the deanery in 2007 and also the life member Honour of the Catholic Women Organization of Awka Diocese in 2022.
The cold hands of death snatched her away after a brief illness on Match twenty-six, this year.
. The vacuum created by her exist in the Onyejiuwa family will be difficult to fill.
However, we have learnt to say, thank you God for whatever you do is for our own good.
Mama Adieu!!!
She is survived by children and many other relations.
