Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, has called on Nigerians to always obey court orders to avoid anarchy in the society.
In his remark while declaring the 27th law week open in Awka, Justice Anyachebelu, who encouraged Ndi Anambra to follow the path of law in seeking justice, also appealed for reduction in number of petitions against Judges, noting it affects justice delivery system in the state.
On her part, the Attorney General of the State and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje; who spoke on the theme of the celebration; “Disobedience to court orders, impediment to rule of law”, stressed the importance of government authorities respecting court orders, and assured that courts which have been sitting outside their jurisdictions because of threats from non-state actors would return back.
Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Awka Branch, Honourable Bona Oraekwe, Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 13 Ukpo, Peter Abayomi, represented by the Officer in charge of Legal, CSP Innocent Obi, and another participant, Amechi Umebuogo, wondered why people disobey court orders because they have filed an appeal at Appellate court, noting that there is sanction for every contempt of court.
