Since the year 2007, the global community set aside twenty-fifth day of April every year as World Malaria Day to highlight the serious parasitic disease spread to humans by a certain type of mosquito anopheles.

Queen Anigbogu reports that Malaria according to findings, has remained a leading cause of preventable illness and death in the world.

Over the years, annual themes have been adopted by World Malaria Day to draw attention to particular facets of battle against malaria and this year theme is “Zero Malaria starts with me”.

Speaking on the day, a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Mr. Umeadi Chibundo said malaria is widespread across more than one hundred countries, responsible for one million deaths a year, saying it is not a disease one needs to toy with and lamented that the global efforts against malaria have continued to be stagnated by the attitudes of people by not being responsible in the area of their health.
