Popular Anambra native doctors; Onyebuchi Okocha; Onyeze Jesus, Chidozie Nwangwu; Akwa Okuko, and Ekene Igboekweze; Eke Hit, have pleaded not guilty to criminal charges preferred against them by the Anambra State Government, after which the state High Court presided over by Honourable Justice Jude Obiorah adjourned the matter to 16th May 2025 for further proceedings and ruling on their bail applications.
Addressing newsmen after court proceedings, Counsel to Onyeze Jesus, Sir Bath Okafor-Ezedinobi, who declined detailed comment because he said that the matter is still in court, advised the state government and its employees to withdraw the charges against his client, describing them as baseless and afterthought, adding that he has filed fundamental right application at Federal High Court Awka, bail application at the state High Court; which will be heard on 16th May, and may file application for “malicious prosecution” if unjust prosecution of his client continues.
On pace of prosecution, Counsel to Akwa Okuko, Barrister Kelvin Akunne, who expressed concern that his client has stayed long in detention before arraignment, said the success of the case is on the side of the defendant.
