Special services and masses were held yesterday in various churches to celebrate mothers as the pillars and salt of the world.

 

In all the churches visited, mothers; wearing different uniforms, also served as pastors and people’s warden, readers of lessons, prayer conductors, among others, and also sang special songs to honour and remind themselves of duties and challenges in child bearing, nurturing and home building.

In a homily at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, the Deputy Administrator of the Cathedral, Reverend Father Leonard Okoye, said women are specially created to bring souls and nurture them, encouraging all mothers to be steadfast in their roles to ensure a better society.

 

At Saint Marks Anglican Church, Enugwu-Agidi, Venerable Dr Nnamdi Emendu asked mothers to monitor their children strictly, noting that many have gone wild due to poor parenting, and reminded mothers of their responsibilities in nurturing, moulding and counseling children.

In their separate speeches, the Vice President, Women’s Ministry, Diocese of Awka, Mrs Ebele Emendu, Chioma Davis-Okechukwu, Chidinma Ezeugo, and Dr Ifeoma Monago thanked God for the gift of motherhood, and called on mothers to reintroduce some aspects of trainings of yester years.
