A member of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, in Awka Zone, Chief Vincent Okechukwu has called for the revamping of the nation’s ailing refineries to ensure seamless supply of petroleum products to independent marketers who sell the product to consumers.

Speaking in an interview with the ABS at Amawbia, Chief Okechukwu regretted the great difference in the pump price of petrol between Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited selling the product at eight hundred and ninety naira per liter and IPMAN stations selling around nine hundred and fifty naira and nine hundred and ninety naira per liter, blaming it on the constant importation of the product by marketers.

He expressed concern that independent petroleum marketers, after making necessary payments; including landing costs, will be forced to sell the product the way they acquired it, and called for the revamping of the nation’s refineries to halt importation.

Chief Okechukwu also called on the federal government to issue more licenses to private individuals to enable them build modular refineries that will lead to job creation for the teeming youth populace, boost the economy and end monopoly in the downstream sector of the economy.
