Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, has embarked on advocacy visits to partners in preparation for the International Women’s Day celebrated every March 8.

The advocacy which kicked off with visits to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC is geared towards collaborating with critical stakeholders and partners in tackling the increasing effects of drugs use among youths, women and men in the society.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Chinwe Achugbu, stated that with the high rate of domestic violence in the state, it has been discovered that most culprits are usually under the influence of hard substance; hence the need to tackle the menace and sought their collaboration in combating the menace.

Also a member of the team and the coordinator, Supporters of Good Governance, Lady Chinweogo Uba highlighted that the advocacy will help in the sensitization campaigns of the ministry especially as it concerns men and youth who are majorly the consumers of hard substances and solicited for the agency’s support in reducing the danger to the barest minimum.

In their different responses, the State Commander, NDLEA, Anambra State Command, Mr Daniel Onyishi, the National President of ASATU, Barr, Titus Akpudo and the Commandant General of NSCDC, Anambra State Command, Ahmed Abubakar Audi all appropriated the visit and assured of their partnership to ending drug use and domestic abuse in the state.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Accelerate Action”
