The Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim has called on the diocesan Knights and all Christians to embrace love and eschew unforgiveness and bitterness.

 

The Archbishop made the call during the 2024 Good Friday Retreat of the Awka Diocesan Council of Knights at Peter’s Anglican Church, Amawbia,

Addressing the participants, Archbishop Ibezim who emphasized the theme, “Father, forgive them,” underscored the pivotal role forgiveness plays in fostering positive relationships, cautioning that harboring bitterness leads to destructive actions and perpetuates sin.

 

Highlighting Christ’ example of forgiveness even in the face of persecution, Archbishop Ibezim stressed the need for reconciliation and unity among the Igbo community, attributing much of their suffering and marginalization to internal discord.

 

He urged Ndi Igbo to prioritize love and unity, emphasizing the importance of fostering harmony within their communities as a foundation for progress and well-being.

Archbishop Ibezim emphasized the connection between forgiveness, spiritual health, and physical well-being, urging Christians to embrace forgiveness as a means of healing and personal growth.

 

In his remarks, President of the Council, Professor Emma Ezenwaji, thanked members of the knight for their support and urged them to recommit to advancing the gospel message.

 

He noted the relevance of the retreat’s theme in deepening their spiritual lives and empowering them to effectively propagate the gospel.

 

On his part, the Chaplain Council of Knights, Diocese of Awka, Venerable Onyinye Chukwu Ilione, emphasized the retreat’s aim to strengthen participants faith and equip them to be exemplary citizens and ambassadors of Christ.

 

The Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, President Mothers Union, Girls Guild, Young Wives Fellowship, Province of the Niger, Dr Chioma Ibezim, were part of the service.
